Sheltered English Immersion Program coming to Tobin

The Bilingual Department in collaboration with district administrators and school principals has been researching ways to improve educational opportunities and services for students enrolled in our English Language Learning programs in the Cambridge Public Schools.

To better meet the needs of students, the Cambridge Public Schools will be relocating the SEI Kindergarten program from the King School to the Tobin School, beginning September 2009.

The Tobin School has serviced SEI students in grades 1 – 8 for many years.  Relocating the SEI Kindergarten class to the Tobin provides students with continuity in the SEI program, should they require it in grade 1 and beyond.

In addition, there is a wealth of expertise and support in the area of teaching English Language Learners at the Tobin School.  Teachers are able to collaborate, receive professional development and plan lessons that compliment the ESL and Literacy Collaborative Curriculums.

Mr. Seth Lewis-Levin, Principal of the Tobin School, would like to extend an invitation for you to attend the Tobin School’s Open House on April 28, 2009 from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. This is a great opportunity to tour the school, meet the principal and connect with other Tobin families.  Please feel free to contact Mary Frawley, the Tobin Family Liaison at (617) 349-6600 ext. 270 for more information regarding the Tobin School’s Open House and other programs.
