Nine CRLS students participated in the Annual Model Bridge Competition this past Saturday at Northeastern University.
The bridges are limited to weighing a 1/2 pound or less, and each of the CRLS bridges held at least 60 pounds. That’s 120 times their own weight! The CRLS Model Bridge Club is open to any CRLS student. The main purpose of the club is to compete in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Annual Model Bridge Competition for high school students.
The club begins with a kick-off meeting at Northeastern University on October 18th where students receive materials and specifications for the contest. Students and their teacher then meet weekly for the first few months, then several times per week as the competition gets closer, to research and build the model bridges. The competition itself is an all-day event on Saturday February 7th at Northeastern University.
